Accenture and the UN Global Compact Progress Report: CEO Study on Sustainability & Achieving the SDGs
As we collectively march toward 2030, how well is business doing in support of achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals?
Most of us remember just a few years ago - 2015, in fact - when world leaders came together and agreed to 17 Sustainable Development Goals that would ensure a better world for all by 2030. These goals have the power to end poverty, fight inequality, and address the fierce urgency of climate change.
Nearly a full five years later, how much progress has been made? Although there has been some advancement and innovation, the answer is simply not enough.
In September 2019, Accenture and the UN Global Compact released the most comprehensive progress report to date - The Decade to Deliver: A Call to Business Action.
This study pulled insights from 1,000+ CEOs worldwide along with a survey of nearly 1,600 companies from 100 countries and reveals:
- Just 21% of CEOs believe business is playing a critical role in contributing to the Global Goals, and
- Less than half (48%) are integrating sustainability into their business operations.
However, nearly three-quarters (71%) of CEOs believe that with increased
commitment and action, businesses can play a crucial role in
contributing to the Global Goals.
Check out the report for more insights and ideas and join in a renewed call for businesses to do more over the next decade.
